When we say ‘infusion teas’, we’re talking about fruit or herbal teas. But the truth is that they’re not really teas at all. So what are infusion teas, exactly?

A Drink That’s Not Tea

The process of steeping plants or fruits in hot water is called infusion. Although a similar process is followed when you make a cup of tea, an infusion doesn’t come from the traditional tea plant. Quite simply, it hasn’t got any tea leaves in it. Because Infusions can be a great way to stay hydrated, the word tea has become confused with infusion.

With a cup containing around 4 calories, infusions can be a tasty way to enjoy a sweet, fruity or spicy drink without sugar.

Herbal or Fruit Infusion vs Regular Tea

The major difference between herbal/fruit infusions and regular tea is that fruit and herbal teas are entirely caffeine free – this is because they are not made from tea leaves at all. All traditional teas are made from the leaves of the tea plant Camellia Sinensis, which contain caffeine.

Teas made from the Camellia Sinensis are: Black, Oolong, Green, White, Yellow and Pu-er.

Infusions are made of any flavour that comes from flower, fruit or bark of plants when mixed with any combinations. You can imagine how many mixture one can make.

Herbal & Spiced Infusions

Herbs and spices have been used for centuries for their health and wellbeing properties. For example, a blend of Rooibos, cinnamon, valerian root and orange peel make a drink that helps you sleep well.
